Saving error

I have Word for Window 97 and when I save a document, it only keeps the first letter of the document name as its saved name. For ex, if I try to save a document named letter.doc, it will only save l.doc
This started last week, after I installed patches to fix a different problem with saving. That problem was that I could not print or save a document with getting an application error. After I installed the patches, that worked but now I have this new problem.
Help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Sharon

This problem occurs when Word is set to (Windows 95) compatibility mode in
Windows XP. Instructions from Office MVP Beth Melton for correcting this:

To rectify:

- Locate WinWord.exe
- Right-click and select Properties
- Select the Compatibility tab
- See if you have a Compatibility Mode set
- If set remove the tick in "Run this program in compatibility mode"

Hi Sharon. Try closing all open applications, then use Windows Explorer
to find the winword.exe file in your computer. Right-click on the file,
and left-click on Properties | Compatibility tab. If the "Run this
program in compatibility mode for: Windows 95" box is checked, uncheck
it, and click on Apply. Does this fix the problem?
