saving file

I have a user and every time she saves a excel file it make a copy of the
file but used letters and numbers but no ext.. Is this a setting on her
computer or in excel itself..

Can any one help .. Thanks.

When excel saves the file, it saves it as a temporary file with a funny name (8
characters--no extension) in the same folder.

If the save is successful, xl will delete the original (or rename it to its
backup name (like "backup of book1.xlk)) and if that's successful, xl will
rename the funny named file to the original's name.

If you're seeing that funny named file, then something is going wrong.

Common things that get blamed for interruptions to this process are antivirus
software poking its head in or network errors--either permissions or physical
problems.

The extension is probably there. It just her computer isn't showning the
extension.

OPen a Window Explorer window.
Tools - Folder Options - View
The 8th box says - Hide Extension for known file types. Remove check in
this box.

The only happen in one certain folder not any other folders on the network.
and only three certain file she dealing with .. seem like a permissions thing
but i can't seem to figure it out.. funny never seen this before.. Thanks Sam
