Saving files in 2007 Office

In an effort to help open a bad file for my wife (Corrupted?) I attempted to
repair the file. Somehow in my efforts I changed all our word files on our
computer to wordpad format. I can still open these files but must state such
with "open with".How can I undo this or how can I change all the now Wordpad
files back to either the .doc or .docx format? This has been a challenge.
