Sounds like your Office is corrupt, and saving/creating
corrupt files. Have you tried saving the file to disk and
opening it up on a different workstation to see if your
office is slowly opening it, or if it has actually
corrupted the file for other Office clients as well?
Either way, I would suggest reinstalling your Office.
