Saving in Word

Every time I try to save a doc. in word it locks up. the drop down box
freezes up and then i get a "Not Responding" error. Any help would be
appreciated!

What version of Word are you using? What service packs are installed?
When does the error occur exactly? When you click Save? When you
attempt to click the drop down list in the Save As dialog box?

If you start Word in Safe Mode, does it still do this. From Start, Run type
in

winword /a

and press Enter. Word will start in Safe Mode, Try creating and saving a
document now. If it works, it is probably a third party add-in. See

I'm using 2003, and have not tried it in safe mode. I'm all up to date on
service packs. The error happens when I click on the drop down list in the
save in box.
