The workstation in question is running Excel 97, on a Win98SE machine.
When trying to save a book, after adding a row or two at most, Exce
locks up. There is no error message, just that blasted hourglas
mouse, and "(not responding)" shown in the task manager.
I've fiddled with the file; moving it, copying the info into a fres
book, to no avail. While it began with just one file, the proble
seems to prevade the excel files I open on this machine.
I've scanned the files in question (with the most recent virus updates
but find no virus'. I've also opened the files on newer machine
without hassle- so I'm pretty sure the problem is local.

Any ideas

Just guesses...

It never hurts to clean out your windows temp file.

Try saving to a local drive (if you're trying to save to a Shared folder).

Try turning off your antivirus--maybe it's getting upset over some combination
of bytes.

Try opening excel in safe mode:
close excel
windows start button|run
excel /safe

Then file|open your workbook and edit it a little and then save.

Did any of this work?
