David,

Go to Admin page in PWA, open "Server Configuration", and select checkbox:
"Allow master projects to be published to Microsoft Project Server".

When you click the Save button, then click the Save as File option and save
your master project as an .mpp file. You didn't state whether you are using
Project Server 2002 or 2003, but in 2002 the use of master projects in the
Project Server was problematic because of double-booking of resource
assignments. Hope this helps.

I have not been able to find double-booking of resources in Project Server
2003, even when I have published the master project. This leads me to
believe that Microsoft has fixed the double-booking issue with the 2003
release. However, I have applied to hotfixes to my Project Server
implementation, so I suppose there is a possibility that one of the hotfixes
solved the problem.

If you are using Project Server 2003, I would recommend that you save the
master project in the Project Server database and look for double-booking.
If you find none, you might also publish the project and look for
double-booking. If you find no double-booking in either case, then good for
you. If either case leads to double-booking, then delete the master project
from the Project Server database. Hope this helps.

Hi Dale,

Are you saying that it is safe to store master projects in Project Server
2003? Masters being simply linked projects.

Thanks Dale. I am cautiously optimistic!

Let me know what you find out. To date, there has been a minor "division of
the house" in this newsgroup as to whether publishing master projects causes
double booking of resources in Project Server 2003. I would like to know if
the problem has been solved or not, so let me know what you see in your
system. Thanks!
