Saving multiple attachments

A coworker was trying to save messages from his inbox to a .pst. He
highlighted 1800 messages, right clicked and selected move to folder.
He selected the folder he wanted them to go to, and instead of moving
them to a folder, it created a blank email with all 1800 messages as
attachments. Now we can't get those email attachments back, unless we
individually right click each message and save it to a folder. This
isn't a very convenient solution. Anyone have a way I can just drag
all the messages to another location? I've tried everything I can
think of and it's not working.

Are we talking about an Exchange mailbox here? Tried Recover Deleted Items
already?
