Saving on Network Volumes

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

When trying to save changes to Excel files on Network Shared Volumes, get error message stating "File Not Found". Hitting OK yields a second alert indicating that the file was saved, but cannot be reopened due to low memory. Reopen works fine. Files stored are .xls files and my Excel is set to save in the older format.
