saving Outlook email in Windows folders

Are there major pitfalls for saving Outlook email outside of Outlook in a
Windows XP folder, corruption issues in particular? Are there other good
reasons for not doing this?

Depends what you mean. if you just mean moving the pst file to a non-default
location, then there's absolutely no problem at all. The only other method
(AFAIAA) is to save individual messages as .msg files in folders you have
created - again AFAIAA there should be no problems...
