Saving slideshow to auto run on multiple formats

A co-worker has asked the following:
"Is there any way you can save a PowerPoint file (other than with a "pps"
extension), that will run automatically as a slide show presentation. I am
trying to create a slide show that will run automatically that will work with
most computer types. I will be eventually saving this LARGE file to a DVD
and I want all computers to be able to view the presentation (MAC's and PCs).
Is that even possible?
Another thought that I don't know if it's feasible is to save the PowerPoint
file so you can view it on a regular DVD player (i.e., one hooked up to a
TV). Is that possible?"

Note: There will be video and sound embedded in the file.

My thought was to suggest she save the file on the DVD as a .pps and include
the free PPT viewer. Is there a better way to accomplish her task?

Thanks,
Laurie

Thanks for your help, Steve!

No, afraid not.

The computer would need to have PowerPoint or the free PowerPoint viewer
installed in order to play the presentation.

Have a look here and on subsequent pages for some ideas:

It's rather more difficult than it might appear on the surface but it can be
done. Keep in mind that DVD/Television image quality is considerably lower than
what you get on a computer.

Some ideas for converting:

The viewer won't work on a DVD player ... it needs a computer.
