saving templates

Meg

I have a template that others will be calling up and
filling out. When they are through, I want them not to
be able to save over my template but have to save it to
another file name. How do I do that in Excel?

Thanks in advance!

Hi
simply save yout template as *.xlt file
If they open/create a new workbook based on this template a new
document is created

I did that but it is allowing changes to be saved in the
template. Is there something else I need to do?

Thanks for the quick response.

After you have created your form, click
<File> <SaveAs>
In the bottom "FileName" box, enter the name,
And then, in the "SaveAsType" box, expand it and click on
"Template (*.xlt)", then <Save>.

To access this template, instruct your users to go to
<File> <New> <General> tab,
And click on the template, name or icon.

What opens is a *copy* of your form, with the same name that you assigned to
it, with a "one" (1) appended to the name.
If you (they) wish, more then one copy can be opened at the same time, each
with sequential numbers appended to the original name.

If they then just click on "Save", the *copy* of the template is saved in
the default file location for that particular machine, under the template
name with the "number" appended to it.

The *original* template remains untouched in the XL templates file location
for that machine.

When it comes time to update or revise the *original* template, simply call
it up from the <File> <New> <General> tab window, and make your changes to
the *copy* that opened.
When you've completed your revisions, repeat what you originally did when
you first created the template.
For the name of the template, simply *remove* the appended number, leaving
the original template name, and again, expand the "SaveAsType" box, and
click on "Template (*.xlt)", then <Save>.

Hi
put this template in the Excel template folder and let them create a
new workbook with 'File - new'

Thanks, that was the problem, I didn't have it in the

Have a good weekend.
