Scan to edit document

Would like to scan an employment application and edit it in Word 2007. Have
gone to Office Tools, but do not see the scan option. Also, going to
Add/Remove programs to install it, clicking Change, nothing happens. Any
help out there?

You need an OCR program to convert the picture to text. Scanned documents are
actually just pictures, not editable text.

What are these directions for?

In Windows Vista Click the Start button , click All Programs, then click
Microsoft Office, click Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Microsoft
Office Document Imaging.
In Windows XP Click Start, click All Programs, click Microsoft Office,
click Microsoft Office Tools, and then click Microsoft Office Document
Imaging.
On the File menu, click Open.
Locate the document that you scanned, and then click Open.
After Microsoft Office Document Imaging runs, press CTRL+A to select the
entire document, and then press CTRL+C.
Start Microsoft Office Word.
Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click New.
Click Blank document, and then click Create.
Press CTRL+V to paste the contents of the scanned document into the new file.
You now have a document that you can edit. Be sure to save the new file so
that you don't lose your changes.

So you are saying that I cannot import a scanned document and fill in the
blanks of the document with Word like I can do with Adobe Pro?

They are there to do just what you want to do. Follow the directions
completely and you should have no issues other than cleanup of the editable
document in Word.

I am going to assume that you have a properly installed scanner and
hopefully a full copy of Office, not a standalone version of Word 2007.
Click the following location and look for the following files: C:\program
Files\Common Files\MODI\12.0\MSPSCAN.EXE, MSPVIEW.EXE & XOCR3.PSP along with
40 other files and folders. If you don't have the files listed there, you
don't have document imaging installed and you need to repair install the
Office programs either doing a full install or custom install and make sure
document imaging is selected.

Remember the location to start Document Imaging is Start, Programs,
Microsoft Office, Microsoft Office Tools, Microsoft Office Document Imaging.
Again if this is not present the imaging software from MS probably hasn't
been installed.

My many thanks!
Have checked, but Office Imaging is not in the Office Tools box. I am using
Office 2007 Pro full version. Funny why I cannot add it to Office by going
to Add/Remove, then going to Office 2007 and click change. When clicking on
the change button, it starts, but then stops.

Again, I assume you checked the file location in the post and did not find
the files so it wouldn't be installed. If not check that location and post
back.

Try rerunning the setup from the original disks with a add/repair selection.
If it still fails, I would recommend uninstalling totally and then rebooting
the computer and reinstalling the program (BTW did you have a trial version
on the system when the Pro version was installed?) using the custom
configuration and specifically selecting the Document Imaging.

Let us know how it is going.

Thanks for your help! Will have to wait for a solution on this. I Beta
Tested Office Suite 2007 and had a "free" downloadable copy. Have lost the
master disk, so had to order a replacement. I'm happy as the link for the
orginal download is dead and now get an offical full version. My thanks
again.

Ok, When you get the replacement disk, I would recommend that you totally
uninstall Office and reinstall with the new disk. Hopefully that will
remove any trace of beta software that may be causing your issue. Good luck
and post back with or without a solution.

Thanks again. The version I have is not the Beta version, but the full
Office Pro Suite which was downloaded from MS. None-the-less, hopefully I'll
remember to install the full version this time.
