Scanned Graphics

HELP! I've been working on this all day. Just starting my new website. I do
not want to use the templates. I scanned a 8.5 by 11 picture in of an ancient
scroll that I want to use as my background. It scanned in fine except it is
so big it takes more than the web page I am looking at. When I try and
resize it never fits. I guess I am not sure how it should fit? Should it fit
the page, be larger, smaller? Do I insert as a background or a picture? When
inserted as a background I can't resize it.

I am so confused and about to give up. Can anyone please help. I have
decided to start my site from scratch.

You've got yourself a huge image file there, and it won't do for a web page.
In general, image files greater than 80KB are going to slow down your web
page's load time to an unsatisfactory degree. And you're talking about a
multi-megabyte file size.

You will need to use image editing software to make the image much smaller
in size (in pixels, that is. Inches don't count), and as optimized as
possible.

Thanks alot, that makes alot of sense. Can you recommend an image software
for me to use. Would microsoft publisher be one? or are we talking about
something else?

Again Scott thanks for your time and patience.

MS Publisher is a desktop publishing application. You need a graphic application, such as PaintShop
Pro, PhotoShop, etc.

No Microsoft Publisher is not an image editor. It is desktop publishing
software.

Try something like Adobe Photo Elements; or Paintshop Pro.

Photoshop Elements 3 or Paint Shop Pro ... both are great. See my aricle in
another of your posts.

Kevin;

Can you recommend a software program that can help me? I am currently
working with Microsoft Digital Imaging. I scanned the graphic into this
program and saved it for a web page but when I opened it in Frontpage I got
either 2 or three of the same graphic side by side instead of one. What have
I done wrong? Do I need a different Imaging program?

If you insert any image as background image, it will tile (repeat) to fill the viewing area.

I use Adobe Photoshop, but that may be a bit pricey for you. It is the best.
There are others that are much less money and can do everything you need.
