Scanning capabilities

Prior to updating to Office 2007, my previous version which used the
1997-2003 version of Word allowed my HP 7410xi scans to be saved to a Word
file with editable capabilities. It seems now that I have updated to Office
2007 the files saved are done so in pdf and the ability to edit the text,
copy and/or paste pictures is no longer there. Did I lose this capability or
is it a setting I need to address and if so where and how do I get to it?

Hi Papps,

It may depend on what OCR software came with your HP scanner. MS Office 2007 still has the optional install Microsoft Office
Document Imaging and Scanning you can add from the Microsoft Office choice in Add/Remove Programs in the Windows control panel.

I hope you got my message. I tried to reply and wrote a long drawn out thank
you with explanation as to how I think you were directing me and the fact
that it seemed to have worked to a degree. But when I went to send it I was
informed that it was too busy and it appears to have wiped out my reply.
Anyway, thanks again but I was wondering if you could help me a little
further since you seem familiar with this issue. Pre Office 2007 an HP
Director drop down offered me the option of saving the the scanned files
directly to a Word file for editting. Now the options are PDF, Notepad, RTF
and one other but no Word. Is there a way I can activate or configure this.
It was real handy as opposed to saving as RTF and then finding it. Thanks
again for your promt and helpful response,

Hi Jay,

That approach will bring in an item as a picture, but not as editable text, as requested, unless the scanner itself allows to have
a setting to run through OCR.

Another approach is in Graham Mayor's page at
