Scanning Issues

H

Harold

When I scan documents my software converts them to Word.
Problem is that various sections are in frames. Can I
select the entire document and eliminate all frames
leaving the text in place? If so, how?

Thanks.

Can you eliminate all frames at once by selecting. No, not unless you've
written a macro to do that.

Your problem is with your OCR software rather than with Word. Have it
convert the picture it scans in to a text file. Then open that in Word. This
may work better for you.

For any possibility of help on this here, you would need to post the version
of Word you are using and the scanning software (including version). Is the
text being put into (1) frames, (2) text boxes, or (3) columns? I've known
OCR translators to try all three.

If they're really frames (and not text boxes), try Ctrl+A, Ctrl+Q. This will
remove the frame by resetting the text to the default style formatting,
which most likely does not include a frame. This will *not* preserve the
layout but will give you the raw text to work with.

As Charles says, most OCR software makes a dog's breakfast of Word
formatting. From those I have tried - and that's most - Finereader from
version 5 on makes the best of this difficult task, but for the rest
scanning to plain text as Charles recommends is usually the best plan if you
actually want to be able to edit the document.
