Scanning logo into word

I have spent the last 6 hours attempting to scan a
letterhead logo into a blank word document with no
success. I have downloaded filters and upgrades with no
success to my project. This has to be simpler than what
I have spent the day doing. Can someone please explain
how you do this simple scan?
I use Home XP and have a HP 6110 All-in-one printer.

Hi, Steve. Try scanning the letterhead to a file (.jpg, .tif, .wmf) on your hard drive, then insert the image file into the header of your Word document with Insert > Picture > From File.
