Can you tell me why I cannot edit text when I scan a form. I select text and
send to it to Microsoft word. The only thing new on my PC is Microsoft
Office Professional. Thanks

Hi JoAnn:
I'm not just sure what software you mean - but I just have the original
HPScanning Software 2100 Series - if this is any help. But I must tell you I
have had this scanner for well over 3 years and I put the original disc in
and it comes up with an error message "not supported" why I don't know. I
only discovered this when I tried to edit the text. Any suggestions - I
noticed on my Microsoft Office Tools there was an option to choose Microsoft
Document Scanning so I tried that and saw it performing the OCR thing and it
came up great but still I couldn't edit the text I had in the original thing!
Sorry the confusion but I really a novice at all this.

The first thing I would suggest is to read the manual or Help file with your
scanner. Look for the section related to OCR.

I'll be honest with you. I've used Microsoft's document imaging tool to
convert to text. It's not terrible but I've seen better. I've never tried
the document scanning tool because I had good results with the software that
came with my scanner. I have a new scanner (about 3 weeks now) but haven't
tried OCR with it yet. I switched from Visioneer to HP this time so the
software will be completely different.

Just a thought - have you tried contacting HP? They may be able to give you
specific instructions with their software. It's worth a shot.

Once the Document Imaging program executes the OCR (Tools Recognize text using
OCR), send the results to Word. Tools, send text to Word. You can scan just
about any text document and save as .tif. The Document Imaging program will take
the .tif image and recognize the text using OCR.

Hi Mary: I tried your suggestion but unfortunately it came up like a full
page of text rather than looking like the form I had scanned. But last night
I worked on it for a long time and it worked. The only different than what
you suggested was I saved it as a Microsoft document Image Format - it came
out exactly the same as the form I scanned. I just clicked on the Text icon
and voila it worked. Saved it and closed it - opened it back up - changed the
text - saved again and it saved all the changes. It was nightmare but I
finally did it! Thanks for your help

The important thing is you got it to work and learned something from the
process. Thanks for posting your success, it is appreciated.
