SCANPST returning error - says it can't access file!

I sure hope you can help me because I haven't a clue where else to turn.

I'm an Outlook 2007 user who produces a monthly newsletter for a group I
belong to. I created a group of contacts to send the document in PDF form
to. I've never had trouble sending it before, but ever since I started using
Outlook 2007 (I'd been using OL2003), the simple act of sending out this
newsletter has devistated my PST file!

What happens is, I create an email, insert the group's name in the 'To'
field, attach the PDF file (1MB) and hit send. The email goes into the
outbox and there it sits! The computer then starts what looks like a
send/receive cycle that is repeated hundreds of times! There are only 20 or
so names in this address list! I've tried doing this with the group name and
by double clicking on the group name and expanding the names in the 'To'
field - same results. The email never seens to leave the 'Outbox', though it
does seem that my recipents are getting their copies.

The funny thing is, this process does something to my PST file. Even though
it's got only a month's worth of emails (27035 KB), it suddenly acts as if
it's HUGE! It no longer lets me delete emails into the trash - I have to
permanently delete them right off the bat. It also won't let me send
anything without going into a fit of 'sychronizing folders' - a fit I have
let it go a whole night without seeing any resolution.

I've tried running the SCANPST program on the OUTLOOK.PST file without
sucess. It stops at phase 4 of 8 and gives me an error message saying:
"An unexpected error prevented access to this file. Use a disk error
checking program to check the disk, and then try using the Microsoft Office
Outlook 2007 Inbox Repair Tool again."

Of course, I have done this. And, since I am posting here, you can probably
guess that it didn't work. I'm still getting the error and I still can't
send emails. Can anyone reading this please help?

In anticipation of further questions, yes, I did run the Inbox Repair tool
properly - while Outlook was shut down. I pulled the SCANPST log file and it
says the following:

Have you ever found a solution to this problem? I am having serious issues
with Outlook 07 and the error log is telling me the same error you got?
