Schedule Indicators

Dear All

My client is interested in creating schedule indicators represented by traffic lights (at task and project level) which is fine. The problem is that as the EPM initiative is in its nascent stage no prject manager or team members are updating the project, hence we can't compare schedule from baseline. Can anyone suggest an alternative approach? What I can think of is to compare scheduled finish date from system date, but would this approach be right? Any other tested approach is welcome

Thanks a lot for your help
Regards
Sumit.

Why don't you set up stoplight indicators in a custom field which shows
Finish Variance? And then, since your EPM environment is stalled, why don't
you use the Reschedule Uncompleted Work feature of Microsoft Project
Professional (Tools - Tracking - Update Project - Reschedule Uncompleted
Work to Start After _____) to move the uncompleted work into future time
periods for each project? By doing so, you will graphically depict the
amount of project slippage in each project because the EPM environment is
stalled? Just an idea. Perhaps the others will have some thoughts, too.

Dear Dale,

Thanks for your response. I am definitely looking at creating traffic lights but what which variables to compare? The problem here is that they just don't update a project status, I can do that once but who will do that later? we need to find someway of identfying the variance even if there is no updation either through PWA or Proj Prof. If no updation is being done then there won't be any difference between Task's finish date and Baseline Finish Date right? Even Finish Vaiance won't have any value right? Given this scenario what alternatives do we have?

Sumit

Is anyone in your company actually using your Project Server implementation?
Are team members reporting time and are project managers updating their
plans?

I don't understand what you are trying to tell me. It sounds like no one is
using the system, and yet your bosses insist on date slippage reports out of
the system. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Please explain, then
perhaps we can help you.

Dear Dale,

Being a pilot implementation, people here are not using EPM in true sense. I have asked them to reschedule the tasks and start first level of tracking.

Also, I did create finish variance graphical indicators at task and project level.

Thanks for your suggestion.
