Russ, a user can set up a Windows Scheduled Task, this would open it at a
preset time and if Outlook is set to check E-mail on opening then it WOULD
poll the server.
Thanks In Advance

No. You cannot configure a program to launch automatically (Outlook or
any other program for that matter).
To do automatic polling, Outlook must be running.

I suppose I should have my question clearer. What I want to be able to do
is
to have Outlook 2003 scheduled to open every hour to check for incoming
email
and after 5 minutes for the application to close.
:
You can't. Like most software, Outlook must be running in order to
function.

How can I schedule Outlook 2003 to check for incoming email every
hour
without having the application opened and running in the background?
