Version: 2004
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)
Processor: Power PC
Email Client: pop

When I launch Entourage the schedule"send & receive all" on startup no longer works. Worked fine for years. I can get the mail manually by clicking the send & receive button. Any ideas? Have not changed anything. Just stopped working. Checked settings in Schedules and nothing has changed. It works on my ibook running the same system but not on my powerbook G4.

Is it still enabled (checkmarked)? If you haven't already try disabling
it, restarting Entourage and then enabling it again.

Hope this helps!

Hi Bill,

Tried what you suggesed (disabling, restarting, enabling) sorry to say no change. Still won't run schedule at startup. Even removed the com.microsoft.entrouage.plist in home library preferences. Still no change.
Any other suggestions? Weird. Works with same settings on my other computers (ibook G4 and IMac G5) but stopped working on Powerbook g4.
I am totally stumped. Guess I'll just have to get the email manually if I can't get it solved. But sure would like to know how to get it working again.

Thanks for your help

Delete the schedule and create a new one.

It could be a strange symptom of database corruption. Rebuild your database:

Hi Diane,

I tried to delete the "Send & Receive All" schedule but when I highlighted it the delete button is grayed out - Send & Receiveit is also in a bold font. Only the New and Edit buttons are active. It is same on my other 2 computers with the same schedule setup. I disable it and created a new "Send & Receive All" schedule now I had 2 in the schedule list, one enabled and one --the first one in bold font --disabled. Quit and restarted Entourage but it still failed to run at Start up. The new one I created, when highlighted, I was able to delete since the delete button was now active. Am I missing something/doing it wrong?
Everything else works fine… I can send and receive mail when manually clicking on send and receive, no problems with mailboxes or anything else. My other 2 computers are using the same Entourage set up and get the same email off Earthlink. So not sure how it could be database corruption – but what do I know! Not sure I want to take the chance and do a rebuild as it sounds, (from the link you supplied) perilous. Guess I'll just have to live with getting the mail manually on this ibook g4 if there is nothing else to try.

Thanks,
Cat

Hmmm, it seems you can't delete the Send & Receive All default schedule.

Entourage includes four built-in schedules, which you can modify to meet
your needs. For some reason they are dimming the Delete button on only the
Send & Receive All,

Empty Deleted Items Folder
Empty Junk E-mail Folder
Send & Receive All
Send All
Everything else works fine… I can send and receive mail when manually clicking
on send and receive, no problems with mailboxes or anything else. My other 2

Each Identity in Entourage is separate even if they are accessing the same
account via multiple computers. It could be your database.

If you make a duplicate in the Finder, you will be safe.

1. Make a duplicate in the Finder.
2. Log out/in with shift key down
3. Hold Option key when launching Entourage and select to rebuild.
4. Restart our computer.
5. Test....does the problem go away? If yes, then you can trash your backups
after you are sure everything is working correctly.
6. If no, then you can always revert to your backup copy.

Hi Diane,

Ok I'll try the rebuild but explain exactly what folder I am making a duplicate of - is it the whole Microsoft Users data folder or 2004 Office Identities folder? Can I just drag the Microsoft Users folder to a backup USB drive? How about just replacing it with a copy of Microsoft Users folder from one of my other computers? Will that work?

Also when I log out...do I hold the shift key down only when I click log out or when I log in. Confused. Sorry never had to do this log out/log in stuff. Always just use sleep or restart or shut down. I think I need rebuild database for Dummies!

Thanks for all your help.

Best,

The folder to back up is your Identity named "Main" by default. It will be
in this location:

"YOUR USER FOLDER/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2004 Identities/Main"
Also when I log out...do I hold the shift key down only when I click log out
or when I log in. Confused. Sorry never had to do this log out/log in stuff.

Log out.
This should bring you to a screen where you enter your password for your
Identity.
Enter password
Hold Shift key down

Login/Out is quicker than rebooting your computer. Also an easy way to
switch to a new User. Many people create a Test User to have a clean
environment for testing. Eliminating your User's folder is one of the
quickest ways to determine where the problem is located.

Hi Diane,

In the continuing saga of this mystery…

Before rebuilding the database I ran Database Utility and ran Verify Database Integrity..
Found no Problems. Can this be a false negative? Wouldn't this tell me if there was a corruption problem?. I did not do the rebuild yet. Also just to see what would happpen I removed my MUD folder and replaced it with a MUD from one of my other computers (contains the same identtity info/emails etc) without this schedule problem. It did not solve the problem—schedule on startup still did not work.

Should I still rebuild the database on the problematic laptop? If that doesn't do the trick do you have any other suggestions besides reinstalling Office 2004 again? Maybe it is something in the OS- running Tiger 10.4.11 but I have no idea what. Any other .plist I should toss? I just might have to get the mail manually. Also Apple Mail works fine…gets the email off the server at startup.

Much thanks for you efforts.

Best, Cat

Hi,

PROBLME SOLVED by MS excellent customer Tech Support.
You get 2 Free Tech Support Calls.

Not the Database. No Need to Reinstall

It was BAD/Corrupt preferences files

Go To:
Home- Library-Preferences.

Trash ALL com.microsoft.plist
Put ALL the MICROSOFT plists in the trash
ALSO TRASH the folder that says Microsoft (near the bottom of the plist list).
EMPTY TRASH
Restart the Computer

Open Entourage
Tools
Schedule
Send & Receive All highlight
Edit
Set up Repeating Schedule 10 Minutes (or whatever time you want)
Check- at Startup
Enable

Quit Entrourage then Open Entourage

PS. You might have to reset some of your MS Word Preferences and any other MS Office suite programs you use.

HOPE this helps other users who might have this problem.
