Scheduling building access

I hope that someone here can help me with this.
The company I work for is an IT reseller. We have won a number of contracts
to install complete network and IT infrastructure solutions into academic
institutions.
Our project teams commonly find that they have restrictions forced upon them
due to dates when they are not allowed to access school buildings.

I was wondering about the best way to include these restrictions into a
project plan and thought that I should be able to create the school building
as a resource and amend its working hours. Is this the best solution or can
someone offfer an alternative solution?

Thanks for any suggestions

Carl

Hi Carl,

You can also assign a calendar to a task. You could create a calendar with
the access hours of the building and assign this calendar to the tasks
depending on this access. In the advanced tab of the tasks information you
can choose a calendar for the task and decide wether or not to ignore the
calendar of the resources assigned to the task.
If you ignore the resources calendar they will work following the calendar
of the building. If you don't resources will work following the calendar of
the building only whitin their availabilities.
Hope this will help

To expand on that comment a little -- it is not necessary to create a
resource, only a calandar representing the availability of that resource.
Then, you assign the new calander to the task as described. To create a new
calendar Tools/Change Working Time... then at the bottom click the New...
button. From there is it pretty intuitive.

In the base calendar designated as the Project Calendar, mark off the days
that you can't get access to the buildings as non-working days. Base the
resource's individual calendars on the same base calendar as the project
cealnedar.
