Screen is blank when I call up a project template

I have tried to use the recommended re-register resolution for srchasst and
srchui.dll, but it still did not work. The project files seems to open and
it's name is displayed on the upper left hand corner ot the screen, but no
gantt or any other format is displayed. When I close the file it even asks me
if I want to save the settngs. This applies also to creating a new project
file. I am runnig on a Dell Laititude D600. Any help would in figuring this
one out is appreciated. All other MS products usch as Excel, Visio, Word and
Powerpoint work just fine.

I am also having the same problem with Project Standard 2003, which I just
recently installed. I, too, tried reregistering the two DLLs and get the same
result. I'm running an HP Pavilion 9800, 1.4GHz P4, 512M RAM w/ WinXP Pro.
Project is the only Office 2003 program I run; everything else is XP. I'm not
exactly a happy camper about this, as I picked up my copy of Project under
the Home Use Program and MS tech support insists I have to pay $35 just to
e-mail the problem to them, even though I've never talked to them before.

Just as a first guess, have you verified that you do not have any
filters applied? If a filter is applied for which no data qualifies,
then you would see a blank view.

No, I don't have any filters set. I've just installed Project, so I should
be seeing *something.* I'm unable to change views, add or delete data, or do
anything other than select New, Open, Save, and Print. All other buttons and
menu options are grayed out, yet I have "Project1" in the title bar, so
there's a project loaded. I get the "do you want to save" dialogue when I
close the project, too.

Hi Chris,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Sorry you're having problems. I can only advise uninstalling Project in its
entirety and then re-installing. If that doesn't work, you'll have to
contact Microsoft as it seems you might have a faulty cd. I'm not certain,
as I don't work for Microsoft, but in this sort of instance they may waive
the fee after you've contacted them.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://www.mvps.org/project/

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Thanks for the advice, Mike. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling as you
suggested, but I still get the same problem--the project's there, but I
can't see anything and Project won't let me select a view, Gantt chart, or
whatever. If push comes to shove, I'm only out $20 since I got my copy
through the Home Use Program. I'll see if MS will let me get a new CD.
