Screentips are gone in Word 2007

In Word 2007, Srceentips that used to show information pertaining to
comments, tracked changes, footnotes text, etc. do not show anymore.

That happens in Print / Draft / Web / Layout views.

The Office Button / Word Options / Display / Show document tooltips
on hover option IS ENABLED (the box is checked).

The Office Button / Word Options / Popular / Screentip style option IS
ENABLED as “Show feature descriptions in Screentipsâ€.

The "Show document tooltips on hover" pertains to the footnotes/endnotes but
the ScreenTips option pertains to those you see when you hover your mouse
over a button in the Ribbon, not reviewing balloons. On the Review tab, did
you check the Balloon and Show Markup options?

Do they display if you start Word in Safe Mode? Hold Ctrl while starting
Word and continue to hold until prompted to start in Safe Mode. Failing
that, try starting Windows in Safe Mode and see if they display. If they do
the update your graphics driver.

If I run Word 2007 in Safe Mode, Screentips do not display.

If I run Windows (XP Professional) in Safe Mode, Screentips in Word display
normally.

Pursuant to your suggestion, I updated my graphics driver (Intel G33/G31
Express Chipset Family. Updated version: 6.140010.5029).

The graphics driver update did not help. Screentips in Word still do not
show when running Windows in normal mode (as opposed to Safe Mode).

If they display in Windows Safe mode then the most likely cause is your
graphics driver or settings. What about your hardware acceleration? You
might try dialing it down a notch or two for your display adapter. You
should be able to find this in your Display Properties.

I dialed down the hardware acceleration one notch at a time, down to zero. I
tested Screentips at each of the settings, with no positive results
(Screentips did not show in any of those settings).

I also tried all available screen resolutions without positive results.

Additionally to what I have done (referred to my preceding posts), I just
installed Office 2007 Service Pack 2.

It did not resolve the Screentips problem.

The problem is caused by the DigitalPersona Password Manager software,
version 2.0.1 (for a Microsoft supported fingerprint reader).

The problem was resolved by disabling [msconfig] the Biometric
Authentication service runing that software.

Thanks for the update. Since it continued to occur in Word Safe Mode but not
Windows Safe Mode I suspected a third-party conflict but had no ideas on how
to track it down. Glad to hear you have the issue resolved. :)

Have you tried deleting the Data key and/or deleting Normal.dotm?
