Scripting Entourage Invitations

M

Mark Aalyson

Perhaps the scripters among the list members could tell me: Is there a way
to identify an incoming mail message as an invitation? I'm trying to script
disposition of an invitation before it's accepted and transformed into a
calendar event.

Thanks

Unfortunately not. _Some_ invitations - from other email clients - appear as
messages with .ics attachments (actually these you usually have to
double-click to enter them as events, although the messages usually also
have the "invitation" icon). Those could be found by script, or even just by
rule. But others - invitations sent by Entourage or Exchange in particular -
the ones that automatically appear as invitations with links to accept,
decline, etc. - are not discoverable by script. Entourage's scripting
implementation has fallen way behind its UI. It's still mostly just caught
up to where Entourage 2001's UI was! (And back then, the scripting was
basically still just OE 5's with a few basic extras, so we've moved on a
bit.) SR2 introduced just a few new scripting features, mostly for Exchange
plus one or two calendar improvements (time zone and recurring event dates),
but it's no way up to what it should be. Let's hope the next major version
catches up. Please keep asking for improved AppleScript features here.
