Scrolling Lockup in Excel 2000

I use Windows 98 and Excel 2000.

When I either total with the Sigma icon or scroll using the Microsoft
Optical Mouse the scrolling sometimes locks up and keeps scrolling.

I have to hit Ctl Alt Delete 3 times to get out of the program. I have no
Viruses present in my computer.

Can someone help me with this fix.
