scrolling prevented beyond cursor after writing

This has happened on many different computers, but for the record here is my
configuration:
WinXP pro, Office 2003 SP3 (11.8215.8202)

After writing any word, sentence or space, I cannot scroll beyond where the
blinking cursor is. As this is running on a laptop, I am sure that the mouse
is not moved before trying to scroll (not sure if this has any effect on the
problem).
However, if I click anywhere in the document, situating the cursor somewhere
else, I am able to scroll beyond the cursor.
This happens both in new documents and old alike.

Anyone else has the same problem or know how to correct this?
