Search and Replace in protected sheets

I have a range of cells unprotected within a protected sheet. Therefor
I am able to change the value in these cells even if the sheet i
protected. But if I try to seach and replace a value within th
unprotected range, I am NOT able to do it. I get the typical erro
saying that the worksheet is protected.
I heard that this is a bug...is there a way around this problem ??
I would appreciate any help !!
