Search by category

I use a convention of labeling certain incoming messages if they need
action, so I can later search for everything that carries this label.
(GTDers will recognize this.)

I then created a Saved Search where:
[Match all criteria if] [Category] [Is] [Current]

This used to work perfectly. I could click on the saved search and see
all mail messages that were tagged with the category of Current.

However, the Entourage database recently had a problem (ERROR:
Corruption detected on index [MLRC:1]) and required a rebuild. Now, the
Saved Search does not retrieve anything and, if I manually execute an
Advanced Search with the above criteria, it returns 0 results also.

There are messages that are tagged with the Current tag, so I know that
the category tags have not been cleared. Or have they?

After posting this query, I went back to Entourage and opened the
Preferences to check on something else (query for that coming next).
Immediately as I opened it items began appearing in the Saved Search
'folder'. This occurred after nearly 1 hour since the database rebuild,
reopening Entourage, sending and receiving email. The time-coincidence
was apparently simultaneous. Also, the Activity Monitor showed the mds
and mdsworker processes immediately (and cumulatively) spiked at over
100% (about 90% for one core, about 30% for the other core).

So the search now displays what I expected to see; andthough I don't
understand the behavior it doesn't matter. Consider it a data point.

The searches are performed through Spotlight. I suspect the database
wasn't properly reindexed after the rebuild.
Use the Entourage preferences to force-reindex the database.

That confirms what I suspected. Spotlight needed to reindex the
database.
mds and mdworker are two Spotlight-related processes.
