Search Folders and Deleted Items folder

How can I get Search Folders to look in Deleted Items? I've tried both
checking the high level "Mailbox" folder with "search subfolders on", and
I've tried directly checking the Deleted Items folder itself. In both cases,
Search Folders seem to look in every folder but Deleted Items.
