Here's an idea for a feature in Outlook:
Provide a menu item (under the Tools menu, possibly as a part of the
"Mailbox Cleanup" menu item) that will search for and list all the duplicate
e-mails in Outlook.
Why?
Rules that re-direct mail to different folders in Outlook can result in
duplicates of e-mails in different folders. Duplicate e-mails can be a pain,
because you may have dealt with/responded to the e-mail previously, but think
you missed it if you see it in a different folder.
By identifying duplicate e-mails, it would be possible to do some "manual"
clean-up of Outlook mail.
Follow-up Feature: A rule option that analyzes the rules for the possibility
of creating e-mail copies in different folders. The feature can include:
- scanning rules for potential duplicating of e-mails
- suggesting rule "modifiers" to prevent duplications
- allowing duplicate e-mails for specific rules
- option to mark a specific rule's copy of the e-mail as the "original",
with others marked as "duplicates"
- applying a "follow-up flag" to duplicate e-mails after applying rules
If you get a chance, let me know if you like the idea:
