Searching GAL in Outlook 2003

John G. Ata

Hi,

Anyone know why in 2003, unlike previous versions, a search in the GAL
appears to only work in the order the names are displayed in the Address
Book: in my case last, first. In previous versions, it would work both
ways. Is this a Outlook server parameter or an actual Office client
parameter?

Thanks,
John

More information:

On my setup at home to the same Exchange server and account, I don't have a
problem. So it has to be a client setting. The only difference I see is
that at work, when I do a "Properties" on the GAL, it says the location is
somewhere on my machine (local Outlook folder in Documents etc.) where at
home it says the location is actually the name of the Exchange server. At
work, I'm running in cached mode, at home I'm not. Nothing else seems to be
different...

Yup, when I truned off cached mode, it works like at home and name searches
work correctly. Too bad - the cached mode sounded like a good idea...

Added the following keys but stayed in cache mode. This seems to work fine.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Cached Mode]
"DownloadOAB"=dword:00000000
"ANR Include Online GAL"=dword:00000001
