Secret keyboard shortcuts in OneNote 2007? SHIFT+CTRL+T createslinked page for selected text.

R

Rainer

Hello,

the other day I accidentally found out that SHIFT+CTRL+T creates a
linked page with the currently selected text. (At least it does so on
my machine.) However, I couldn't find this shortcut in the help file.
Can anybody confirm this?

Kind regards,

Rainer

I've been using OneNote 2007 forever, but I didn't know about that key
combination!

I'm participating in the 2010 Technical Preview Program -- the newest
version of OneNote has the ability to quickly create linked pages by
wiki-like features. Typing [[ ]] around a word or a phrase automatically
does the same thing that CTRL-SHFT-T does. I've been wanting a feature like
that, so I'm glad that you discovered it in 2007!

Thanks for sharing!

Hello Joe,

thank you for confirming this! Now I know that I'm not crazy. Isn't
OneNote a great product? Of course now I'm wondering whether OneNote
2007 holds any other easter eggs...

I have a question concerning OneNote 2010: Are you able to run this
side-by-side with a OneNote 2007 installation?

Kind regards,

Rainer

Absolutely yes! Not only can both products be installed on the same
machine, but they both can be running simultaneously. This has allowed me
to really dig in and do some side-by-side comparisons.

I agree -- OneNote is a great product, and the 2010 version looks to be even
better!

If you encounter any other 'easter eggs', please share them!

Take care,
Joe

As you are first person I met so far who is working the Technical
Preview (I applied but no reaction so far):

Did you check whether ON 2010 does have the feature if "grouping"
objects?
Will it now be possible to tie annotations to the underlying object?

Hello Joe,

thanks for the info! Concerning any other easter eggs: Well, since
I've been using OneNote for about two years now before stumbling over
this, I'll probably get back to you in summer 2011 with easter egg
number two. ;-)

Looks like I have to find a way to get invited to a technology
preview.

By the way: I have noticed that our little conversation has been
mirrored to another website:

Do you know anything about it?

Cheers,

As you are first person I met so far who is working the Technical
Preview (I applied but no reaction so far):

I applied for the Technical Preview as soon as it was announced, but it took
a couple of weeks to hear anything. Judging from the postings in the TP
newsgroup, people continue to be invited.
Did you check whether ON 2010 does have the feature if "grouping"
objects?

These two features don't appear to have been added. However, the page
grouping featured (making subpages) has been improved, making it much easier
to make nested pages, even more than one deep. Also, it is possible to
collapse groups of pages, which makes for a much neater appearance for
notebooks with many pages.

I'm happy to answer any questions about the new version -- I am a die-hard
OneNote fan, and have found few people who are as passionate about it as me
to talk about it with, other than the TP newsgroup.

Take care,
Joe

No, I don't... I've seen similar instances in other tech forums, however --
it has actually been very helpful to me in the past when trying to
troubleshoot a particular problem.

Take care,

Yes - as long as they are installed to different directories.

Only Outlook cannot have multiple concurtrent versions installed.

Luckily yesterday I received the approval. I downloaded and installed
stuff. And finally I managed to detect that one can use a newsreader fir
the discussions ;-) ;-) (the web-interface for the "discussions" is just

Unfortunately so. {siiiiigh}
I really can not understand this at all.
Thy same with the really serious problem of missing optional page breaks
on printing which also remained. {siiiigh}
And the change to the exclusive usage of the "Ribbon" UI without the
possibility to use classical toolbars (floating or docked) for me
almost means a show-stopper. :-( :-(

Yes, I saw this but did not go too deep into it.
On my side at present serious disappointment is the result of the first
day's usage ...

Obviously you did nit yet have got to know me said:

As IMO it does not make too much sense to talk about things which the
majority of the participants in this group do not know, I think it's
better to continue in the TP newsgroup.

Same here Rainald.
Microsoft set up the Connect website for feedback, get inundated with this
request then promptly ignore it. One reason why I don't bother with Connect
for feature requests anymore.

No surprise really though surely? I think the Ribbon in ON2010 has been
inevitable since ON2007 was released without it.

Really too sad. IMO this would have been one if the most needed features
Without that annotating is not really workable at all.

I checked things in the public Connect-site.
It seems that for a very long time this channel has just been ignored.
You might remember that I often sent people there. I will no longer do
that.

This issue had been discussed during the Office 2007 beta. And quite
some were complaining.
I for one always opposed and raised warnings. I knew what the results
would be. And it's far worse than I had feared.

Obviously MS' ideology of "conformity" was stronger than logics. It
would have been OK to use Ribbon UI if the possibility to have
customized toolbars in addition would have been maintained. But now the
Ribbon is the only tool. And this means really severe drawbacks,
especially for TabletPC usage. ON2007 already had many obstacles for
TabletPC users. But it's terrible in the new version. And no chance at
all to get any toolbars back.

I'm with you there Rainald.

I actually gave up recommending Connect months ago. It has no effect as a
feedback channel or a wishlist to Microsoft IMHO. The requests fall on deaf
ears.

Could be. I can't say.
It used to be quite different during the ON2007 Beta.

At present the place for suggestions etc. is the NewsGroup for the
Technical Preview in Connect. Quite some members of the team -
especially Daniel Escapa - are responding actively.
