Section Break Changes

Hi,

I have several documents that use Next Page section breaks that have
recently started changing to Continuous section breaks. There is no
apparent trigger to the change, but one time I'll open the document
and they will have changed.

It has happened with more than one document but may not have happened
more than once with a single document.

Is there some cause that I just don't understand?
Also, is there a way to edit the type of break without replacing it?

I'm using Word 2003 (11.5604.5606).
