Word XP doesn't seem to hold the section break continuous.
It wants to revert to Next Page. Used to work fine on
prior versions of Word. Others are having this problem
too. The knowledge base says it happens under certain
circumstances, none of which applies. I did find a bit at
the tail of a knowledge base article that helped to make
it right; in other words, to FIX a problem area after it
occurs. But the basic function still is not right. The fix
is to put focus IN the section, say, that has two columns.
Page setup, Layout, Section Start - pick Continuous. Then
it holds. But you have to go to the next section and do
that also.
