SECTION BREAKS

Hi,

In a Word 2003 document with numerous section breaks (all inserted as "Next
Page" breaks without specifying odd or even pages), Word has transformed them
into "Odd Page" breaks when they need to be "Even Page" breaks.

Selecting the break in Normal view, launching the Page Layout dialog and
telling Word to make them Even Page breaks doesn't work: nothing happens.

Can anyone help with this?

Instead of selecting the section break itself, place the insertion point
anywhere in the section following the break, then change the section start
type. But note that if the page has an odd number, you'll get an Odd Page
break regardless.

Thanks for that.

But why is Word automatically converting "New page" into Odd or Even in the
first place?

Often it's because you've changed orientation. Most printers seem to find it
difficult to print portrait on the back of landscape or vice versa, and so
Word will accommodate them by changing a Next Page break to Odd Page. And if
you've selected "Mirror margins" or "Different odd or even," either of which
signals to Word that you plan to duplex the document, it will not let you
put an odd-numbered page on the back of a sheet.
