Section Numbering

Damien

I cut and pasted a number of documents to make 1 new
document. When I opened up this new one the section
numbers are all over the place, even after changing them
eg instead of 2.0 then subsections 2.1, 2.2, etc it shows
2.0 then subsections 11.1, 11.2. Even if I re-set the
numbers when I re-open the document it returns to the
wrong numbers

I would suggest stripping out all the formatting and
styles in your document and re-applying the styles as
needed.

Probably not necessary to be quite so drastic <g>

Most of the formatting can probably be left alone, but the numbered headings
need to be formatted using styles (preferably, built-in heading styles) and
the style numbering needs to be set up from the top following the
instructions in

http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html

The headings will need styles reapplied, or use Ctrl-Q to reset, as they
will almost certainly have picked up direct format numbering in the cut and
paste process or during later attempts to sort out the numbering.
