Secure Web Pages

John

I wan to set up a secure web page but I can't access the
menu Tools|Server on FP2002. Host is running FP2002
extentions and referred me to Microsoft. I tried accessing
the FP2002 cd to see if this feature need to be added
without success.

I want to create a secure sub-web for use by registered
users. Comments?

The host must give your account permissions to set unique permissions, then
you would create subweb on the server, then open the subweb in FP, then if
you have the correct permissions, you will be able to set unique permissions
for the subweb.

Thomas,

I have a question along the same lines as well.

I've never understood the problem/conflict with using FP secure pages on Apache/Linux server. I've run into this with a couple of virtual server providers. They usually say something like...don't use the FP secure page feature, but never explain why OR how to achieve a secure page. They disallow FP secure page use.

Soooo...how is it done?

Thannks,
R.

The trick to protecting pages on an Apache/UNIX
is doing it via the web masters control panel ( if available )
If it's the CPanel version....
Go to Access Menu > Web Protect and select
the folder you want protected.
It doesn't have to be a Sub Web.
It can be any normal folder.

Under Unix/Linux, FP uses the .htaccess file to manage permissions.

AH! Great, thanks guys...yeah it's the CP version menu.

There is a sub-web but I wanna dump it because the sub is not needed and secondly because dealing with a subweb makes me crazy. :)
