Security Categories: Update/Save error

I am attempting to create or update Categories. I can create a new Category
and save providing I do not add any Users and groups with permissions. I
cannot add users or groups to existing Categories either. I get a very vague
error: "An error occured while completing the operation". I have verified
that users are active.

I can successfully update Categories through the back door by updating each
user individually and assigning them to the Category.

We have experienced the same issue on our test environment (where SP1
is applied) but not in our production environment (where SP1 hasn't
been applied). Coincidence? I think not. ;-) Pretty much the exact
same symptoms you have. I have found that I can go in and make a
change in Groups or Categories that will take, then we get the same
error message. It also effects some changes in Views (I can delete a
view, but editing a view seems to produce the same error message).

We have opened an incident with Microsoft - about 10 days ago, with no
resolution yet.

We only have the problem in Production. We have 2 other environments on a
second server for Test and Training and the problem does not occur in either.
SP1 has been applied to all. I have not experience any issues with Views.
