Security issues with wireless mice & keyboard

Bill

At my office my IT person determined somebody is hacking
into my system through my wireless mouse/keyboard. I have
the Wireless Optical Desktop Pro keyboard and mouse. We
thought he was hacking through our server or specific IP
address. We installed a different computer and disconnect
the server cable and the individual still was able to
take control of my PC. We put on a non wireless mouse and
keyboard and experienced no problems.

Has anybody experienced this before? Please help. Thanks

Bill

Unfortunately, this newsgroup is for security issues regarding ms-access,
the database program from Microsoft. Thus, your post is in the wrong
newsgroup.

As for someone using a wireless keyboard and mouse? Never heard of such a
thing, further, the range is VERY limited (there has been a few bizarre
cases of fairly long receiving).

Even worse is how would the user see the screen, as that is NOT wireless,
and thus, the user would be complete blind. The mouse for example only
transmits data, and does NOT receive data. Since the user would NOT have a
screen display, it is unlikely that the wireless keyboard/mouse was used.
How would the user see the screen, and what they are doing when the screen
is NOT wireless?.

However, it is certainly possible if the pc is close to a window, or behind
a "server room" enclosed in glass. If the user could "look" through the
window and see the screen at the same time, then a wireless hack is
certainly possible. However, it would not be a case where the wireless user
can't see the screen. So, I guess I would not use a wireless keyboard and
mouse on a server that is locked in a computer room, but can be viewed from
outside of the server room.

I would think more likely the person was using remote desktop support, or
perhaps VNC is installed (a free remote desktop control program). Or,
perhaps even something like pc-anywhere was installed. With a server, there
is quite a few open holes, and even some remote admin stuff can occur
through the web browser, depending on what services are installed on the
server.
