Is this feature, where you save with no modifications
allowed, compatible with Mac versions and Powerpoint
versions lower than Windows 2000?

Not sure about the Mac, but I doubt it.

Definitely sure about previous versions of PPT (95, 97, 2000). No,
password protection is not compatible with those versions.

BTW, it doesn't have anything to do with the version of Windows.
