Security

Does anyone have any new user helpful starter hints for securing a database
(.mdb) with 4 separate front ends where all need to be protected by a
password and one front end needs to have user level security.
Here is how our database is currently set up, there is no security: Back
end resides on data drive it’s connected to four front ends, three of these
FE’s are used by data entry people who customize all of their own
queries/forms/reports and who are constantly in Access throughout the day.
The forth database is used by the secretaries for read only purposes,
currently the way it is set up is they have their own category “secretary
objects†in the navigation pane which allows them to view Forms only where
the fields are all locked so they cannot make any changes. But this is not
really secure since they can just view a different category or go into
Navigation options and make any changes they want. So my boss wants me to
set up user group security on their FE as well as set up passwords for all
other FE databases and the BE as well.
I currently have very little knowledge of Security and am having a lot of
trouble trying to secure and understand everything. I set up passwords on
all the FE and BE databases, but this has presented problems.
1.If the BE has a password you cannot get into any objects in any of the FE
database.
2.We currently have permanent mail merge documents connected to one of the
data entry’s FE databases for the secretaries to use, but when a password is
set on that database they cannot access the mail merge documents.
I realize this is complex but would appreciate any helpful advice if anyone
has any.

Thank you
