seeking Macro to replace initial characters

hello,
I'm looking for a macro that will replace the first character of every
word in a selection with two underscore characters. I know it's
unlikely that anyone has such a thing, but I thought perhaps someone
might have or know of something similar which I could alter. (I don't
know vba but perhaps I could figure out enough to do this.) If so, I'd
be grateful if you posted it here or pointed me to it.

The point, in case you're wondering, is to be able to quickly make an
exercise for ESL students out of any given text.

You don't need a macro. Use Find and Replace. With 'Use wildcards'
selected --

search for: <??(*)>
and replace with: __\1
