I'm looking for a software utility that will enhance my management of
Outlook categories. Specifically I'm looking for something that will
help me better maintain and manage a consistent set of categories.
I realize Microsoft's implementation of categories has been ... errrr
.... "problematic" for about ... errr ... six years. Must be pretty
gnarly code in that part of Outlook! In any case one must make do.
The utility I'm looking for would, at a keystroke:
1. Read my master category data from the registry.
2. Read all categories in use in a specified folder(s).
3. Sort all categories and allow me to delete/update/make_master
individual rows.
4. Apply changes to categories associated with Outlook items.
5. Update the master list in the registry with new master categories.
6. Create a backup copy of the new revised category list as a text
file.
Ok, so this is the cadillac version. Any part of this would help. I
can imagine a fancier version too!
I'm betting some developer at Microsoft has written this tool for
their own use.
Any guidance or tips?
Thanks!

PS. When one uses Lookout to index Outlook content, folders become far
less useful and categories become even more interesting.
