Selecting which shape I edit the text on (Visio 2003)

I have a number of diagrams that contain multiple shapes (blocks) that have a
certain amount of overlap.

I can select individual shapes by clicking on the outline of the shape. If
it doesn't select the shape I want first time, it seems to cycle through the
shapes under the pointer. However it seems that the only way to edit the
text is to double click on a shape and that always selects the topmost shape.

I've tried with both the text and blocktext tools, and zooming right in or
out.

Once you have the shape selected use the TextTool button on the main toolbar (it has an A
on it. To deselect text mode click on the pointer button.

Once you select the desired shape, then use the text tool. It responds to
the selected shape. If there are regions of a shape that are not covered by
another shape, then, double-clicking should work.

If you can't double click the shape, then, just do the single click to select
the desired shape for editting. When the shape is selected, then use the
Text tool.
