Send and Receive Repetition

When I send an e-mail (even to myself as a test), hit
Send and Receive... This task get repeated on, and on
multiple times like it's stuck in a repeating loop.
Sending one message gererates 16 or more 'tasks'in
the 'Outlook Send/Receive Progress' message box. I tryed
Detect and repair to no avail.
