send outlook meeting request through ASP.net

Does anybody have experience sending a meeting request through an ASP.net
application.
I have understood that we can use CDO EX for that but I want to avoid that
since that requires me to have Exchange installed on my web server.

What about using iCalendar?

Since I wanted to automate the process, rather than send an icalendar
attachment I did it through WebDav.
