Send/receive in Outlook 2003 and the Inbox

I recently installed Outlook 2003 and an "annoyance" has
popped up.

I work offline through a VPN connection.

When I click on Send/Recieve on the toolbar, Outlook
doesn't get new mail. I've got to highlight the Inbox,
click the down arrow on the Send/Receive button, and
select "This folder (Microsoft Exchange Server)"
or "Shift F9".

Any ideas?

If you're offline, your not on a VPN. When the VPN connection is present,
you are, by definition, online.
