send/receive is failing

I have used Outlook 2002 for about a year, and never had trouble with my send/receive until the past couple of days. I am getting an error message, 'Outlook's request to the server failed. The server responded". ' (error message 0x80004005). I use MSN dial-up and have an msn.com email address. Any help?

Not sure if my first post made it here, so I'm going to resubmit my message now:

Whenever I send email through the Outlook platform, it goes into my "outbox" instead of just sending it right away - as it always had. I do have it selected to "send immediately," so I'm rather confused. Also, in the outbox's "date" column, there is "no date" listed. Strange. What do you think it is??
